Accompanist

Status: Part-time

Reports to: Music Director, Lead Pastor.

Position Summary: The Accompanist is responsible for enriching Sunday services and other
special events with a variety of music; primarily piano, but other instruments could be a
consideration, working in a manner that is consistent with the mission and guiding principles of
the church.

Responsibilities:
● Provide musical accompaniment for two services on each Sunday of the year (allowing
for two paid Sundays off per year)
● Provide musical accompaniment for up to six occasional special services (e.g. Ash
Wednesday, Christmas Eve, Holy Week) and the annual Christmas Party.
● Provide musical accompaniment for all choir rehearsals and performances (this might
occasionally, but should rarely, involve the choir performing outside of a normal church
service).
● Provide musical accompaniment (including reasonable rehearsal time) for soloists who
perform during services.
● Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
● A college degree in music recommended, but not required, including courses in
composition, orchestration and conducting.
● Great organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
● Strong leadership, time management, and multitasking abilities.
● Ability to give clear instructions and make decisions under pressure.
Salary Range: $550-830/month, commensurate with experience.
Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally
required to stand, walk, sit; use hands to finger handle; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs;
balance; talk and hear.

Music Director

Status: Part-time, roughly 10 hours a week.

Position Summary: The Music Director is responsible for enriching Sunday services and other
special events with a variety of music and arts; working in a manner that is consistent with the
mission and guiding principles of the church.

Responsibilities:
● In collaboration with the Lead Minister, choose, plan, prepare, and perform music for
two Sunday services (9AM and 11AM September-May) one Sunday service at 11AM June-August, and other special services (e.g. Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Christmas Eve, and the Longest Night).
○ Reflect and enrich the overarching theme of the service, giving input that supports a
coherent experience.
○ Ensure a quality music program that offers diversity, intergenerational and
intercultural engagement, joy, and reverence.
○ Seek ways to engage onsite and online participants through music.
○ Recruit, rehearse, and conduct choir(s), instrumentalist(s), guest musician(s),
band(s). (Choir performs weekly August-May, Ideally the band will play between
once a month and once a quarter)
○ Hire and supervise accompanist(s), special guest musician(s), and other artists as
needed.
○ Serve as a song leader and leader of services (e.g., introduce and teach songs,
provide incidental music, and other reverent additions).
○ Attend regular staff meetings to coordinate work schedules and facilities use, as well
as to ensure staff are aware of the needs of the music and arts program.
● Recommend and monitor the budget for the music program.
● Attend monthly Leadership Council meetings, with a monthly written report on duties.
● Other duties as assigned.
